How to play
- Choose Read or Write, then hiragana, katakana or both.
- Pick rows from the main, dakuten and combination kana, or use All.
- Read: type the romaji under each card and press Enter. Write: draw the kana for the romaji shown.
- Finish to see the kana to revisit, then practise only those.
Questions
- Which romaji spellings are accepted?
- Hepburn (shi, chi, tsu, fu, ji) and the common alternatives: si, ti, tu, hu, zi, sya, jya, nn, and o for を.
- Can I test dakuten and combination kana?
- Yes. Dakuten (が to ぽ) work in both modes. Combination kana such as きゃ are two characters, so they are in the reading quiz only.
- Is the kana quiz free?
- Yes. It runs in your browser with no sign-up, and it remembers the rows you chose last time.
